The North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) is seeking qualified candidates for a Program Manager of Informatics and Registry Development. This is a full-time salaried, exempt position, with the opportunity to work remotely, or in-person in Springfield, IL. Some travel is required.
Position Summary and Responsibilities
NAACCR’s Program Manager of Informatics and Registry Development provides leadership and project management of NAACCR committees and other groups involved in cancer informatics, interoperability with healthcare information technology and innovative projects such as the National Childhood Cancer Registry (NCCR). This position supports efforts to advance cancer surveillance data collection and processing methods and acts as liaison with professional organizations, regulatory/government groups, and standards organizations. A summary of position responsibilities is given below:
- Develops and proposes plans, strategies, and work scope for ensuring semantic and syntactic interoperability of cancer registration data standards with other national data standards.
- Establishes relationships with domain related terminology developers, professional associations, national and international vendors, stakeholders, standards development organizations, national government groups, and opinion leaders.
- Analyzes and documents impacts of interoperability initiatives and policies on cancer surveillance data standards and registry operations, and shares with NAACCR leadership, membership, and stakeholders.
- Analyzes alignment of NAACCR data items and exchange standards with healthcare data item and exchange standards; leads initiatives to improve alignment.
- Creates documentation of central cancer registry workflows, needs, and use cases to support informatics initiatives.
Participates in testing of innovative solutions to cancer surveillance data exchange, processing, and release. - Assesses current registry (central and hospital) practices related to interoperability and Artificial Intelligence methods and makes recommendations for new use cases.
- Works with partners to develop new processes to implement informatics and interoperability solutions to improve registry operations.
- Provides expertise and creates training materials involving informatics, interoperability initiatives, and implementation issues.
Conducts training on health IT interoperability, artificial intelligence, and other informatics topics at NAACCR-sponsored education forums and as an invited guest for other national groups. - Provides project management for NAACCR’s contributions to the NCCR.
- Coordinates development, revisions, and tracking of agreements with participating NCCR registries.
- Provides support and subject matter expertise for committees and initiatives related to informatics, the NCCR, and other special projects.
- Provides project management for system/tool development for NAACCR.
- Communicates status of projects to staff, NAACCR leadership, and membership on a regular basis, including regular articles for the organization newsletter.
- As requested, supports publication and use of cancer surveillance data.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with medical background in nursing, related field, or a certified oncology data specialist and/or a degree in informatics, related science, or equivalent experience in informatics.
- A master’s degree is preferred, as is previous experience in health informatics, epidemiology, and project management.
- At least two years’ experience in a central cancer registry or related organization is preferred.
- Strong communication (listening, written, and oral) skills and ability to present publicly to a wide variety of audiences.
Starting salary is commensurate with experience and determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.
